Research Centers

The Space Research Initiative brings groups together who share a common enthusiasm about space exploration and discovery. Frequently, these communities are already organized through space-related interdisciplinary research centers and initiatives across Georgia Tech. Some of these centers are listed below.

Georgia Tech Astrobiology

The Georgia Tech Astrobiology Program brings together researchers and students in the interdisciplinary field of astrobiology, which combines astronomy, biology, geosciences, chemistry, and physics, to understand the origin, evolution, and possible distribution of life in the universe.

Center for Relativistic Astrophysics

The mission of the Center for Relativistic Astrophysics (CRA) is to provide students with an outstanding education and training and to foster a vibrant and diverse environment for transformative research and innovative thinking. CRA researchers are engaged in investigations ranging from the large scale structure in the early universe to particle interactions.

Center for Space Technology and Research

The Center for Space Technology and Research (CSTAR) organizes, integrates, and facilitates Georgia Tech’s space science and technology research activities. CSTAR brings together a wide range of Georgia Tech faculty who are active in space-related research and functions as a focal point for the growth of the space industry in the state of Georgia.

CLEVER Virtual Institute

The Center for Lunar Environment and Volatile Exploration Research (CLEVER) was created by NASA as a virtual institute, or SSERVI (Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute), to study the lunar environment and the generation and properties of volatiles and dust.

Hypersonics Center of Excellence

The Georgia Tech Hypersonics Center of Excellence (Hypersonics@GT) was formed to deliver the technologies, testbeds, and talent necessary to maintain U.S. success in hypersonic flight. Enabling hypersonic flight is widely recognized as a key national priority, and academia has been recognized as a key part of the US hypersonics ecosystem.

REVEALS Global Multidisciplinary Team

The Radiation Effects on Volatiles and Exploration of Asteroids and Lunar Surfaces (REVEALS) is a global multidisciplinary team dedicated to researching today’s vital topics for future human space exploration. Based at Georgia Tech, REVEALS is a member of SSERVI (Solar System Exploration Research Virtual Institute).

Affiliated Research Labs and Groups

Many faculty and groups that conduct space research have their own research groups. Below is a partial listing of research group and individual faculty web pages:
