This week will feature a mix of technical sessions, panels, networking opportunities, and community engagement events designed to highlight interdisciplinary collaboration and emerging priorities in the space domain.
Featured Events
Space Week Mission Control
The primary goal of this event is to showcase ongoing work, foster new connections, and create opportunities for collaboration among academia, industry, government, and other stakeholders. This forum provides an opportunity to showcase your research to a technically diverse audience, connect with potential partners, and demonstrate the relevance of your space-related initiatives in a high-impact forum. We invite contributions that represent the full spectrum of space-related activities, including basic and applied research, education, policy, commercialization, innovation, and creative work. Submissions from both Georgia Tech and external participants are strongly encouraged. The deadline to submit abstracts is July 30, 2026.
Space Policy
This session examines the evolving frameworks that guide space activity, from international collaboration to regulation, security, and sustainability. Bringing together experts across policy, law, and research, it creates space for dialogue on how governance can enable innovation while ensuring responsible and equitable use of the space domain.
Terrestrial and Space Weather
Researchers are using lightning signals to understand severe weather in all corners of the Earth and also leveraging their propagation through the ionosphere to detect ionospheric disturbances that impact radio communications, astronomy, and other applications. This session discusses all topics related to severe weather and space weather monitoring, with a focus on lightning signals of opportunity.
Hypersonics
Focused on high-speed flight and next-generation aerospace systems, the Hypersonics Symposium brings together experts to discuss advances in hypersonic technologies and their applications. The session creates space for dialogue on cutting-edge research and the future of rapid, high-speed travel.
Space Weathering of Materials
Materials used in spacecraft, habitats, and other space systems must withstand extreme environmental conditions that can impact their performance and longevity. This session explores the effects of radiation, atomic oxygen, thermal cycling, vacuum exposure, micrometeoroid impacts, and other environmental factors on materials in space. We welcome presentations on material characterization, degradation mechanisms, testing methods, protective technologies, and the development of next-generation materials for space applications.
Space Entrepreneurism
This session explores the ideas, technologies, and partnerships driving the next generation of space startups. Designed for innovators, investors, and researchers alike, it offers a space to share insights, build connections, and accelerate the path from concept to commercialization in the growing space economy.
The Future of Bioastronautics
As human space exploration expands to longer-duration missions and more distant destinations, understanding and supporting human health and performance in space becomes increasingly critical. This session welcomes contributions related to bioastronautics, including space medicine, human physiology, behavioral health, radiation effects, life support systems, crew performance, habitability, nutrition, exercise countermeasures, and biomedical technologies for spaceflight. We encourage interdisciplinary perspectives that advance our understanding of how humans adapt to and thrive in space environments.
