FY26 Space Research Institute Center, Program, Initiative (CPI)
The Space Research Institute's (SRI) Centers, Programs, and Initiatives (CPI) funding process offers a tiered approach designed to support space research growth and collaboration across Georgia Tech.
The CPI process is open to all academic faculty, research faculty, and staff from any Georgia Tech College, The Georgia Tech Research Institute, or the Enterprise Innovation Institute.
This funding opportunity is available at all three tiers:
- Initiatives – entry-level projects designed to test new ideas.
- Programs – mid-stage efforts that must have successfully completed at least one year as an Initiative.
- Centers – advanced projects that demonstrate sustained growth and impact, including at least two rounds of substantial (>$500,000) external funding from industry, government, or philanthropy.
The CPI framework is designed to help promising ideas grow into large-scale, sustainable research endeavors that drive innovation and impact.

GTRI Strategic Initiative Call for Proposals
The GTRI Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is seeking proposals for fiscal year 2027 (FY27) strategic initiative (SI) IRAD projects. White papers are due on November 3, 2025. Georgia Tech academic faculty may partner with a GTRI faculty member to propose a research project under this call.
The purpose of GTRI’s Independent Research and Development (IRAD) investments is to pursue research and develop capabilities to address national security and global challenges. IRAD projects encourage a culture of innovation and extend our research base in alignment with GTRI’s Technology Vision to be the nation’s preeminent university-affiliated, applied research institute for national security. This call is for strategic initiatives; proposals for other IRAD programs will be sought in other calls.
Strategic Initiatives are large IRAD projects that typically involve multiple labs and often include collaboration with Georgia Tech academic faculty. SI IRADs are meant to develop significant capabilities in areas of national security and global importance. They are led by highly capable and motivated project directors who are passionate about the concept and have sufficient vision to foresee potential sponsor opportunities resulting from the investments. Successful Strategic IRADs leverage relevant experience that helps inform the strategic vision and often leverage prior IRAD investments at the Laboratory or Directorate level.
